Our New Bone Marrow Transplantation Unit

The Ray of Light Foundation established the Bone Marrow Transplantation (BMT) unit at Kanchi Kamakoti CHILDS' Trust Hospital (KKCTH) in 2017. This BMT unit has been built on par with international standards. It has a dedicated air handling unit (AHU) to ensure patient safety.

Apart from the BMT unit, 3 positive pressure and 1 negative pressure isolation rooms in the Intensive Care Unit for the critically ill patients were built also donated by Ray of Light foundation to KKCTH. The setting up of the BMT unit and positive pressure /negative pressure isolation rooms in the ICU cost about Rs. 1.3 crores.

It was inaugurated by our cancer survivors, Durgashree, Mohamed Sohail and Sudharshan on September 22, 2016.

The Bone Marrow Transplantation procedure is the only curative option for relapsed or refractory leukemia and lymphoma. So far, 10 successful bone marrow transplants have been performed in the unit.
